The six major factors affecting the performance of cables:
1. Ultraviolet (UV) rays - Do not use cables without UV protection in environments exposed to direct sunlight.
2. Heat - The temperature of cables in metal conduits or troughs is very high. Many polymer materials will reduce their service life under such high temperatures.
3. Water - Moisture in local area network twisted-pair cables will increase the capacitance of the cables, thereby reducing the impedance and causing near-end crosstalk problems.
4. Mechanical damage (repair cost) - The repair of optical cables is very expensive. At least two terminations are required at each interruption point.
5. Grounding - If the shielding layer of the cable needs to be grounded, it must comply with the corresponding standards.
6. Total length of routing (not only for floors) - For local area network twisted-pair cables used in buildings, the total length should be limited to within 90 meters. For 100Mps or 1000Mbps networks, the laying distance should not exceed this limit. If the laying distance is between 100 meters and 300 meters, optical cables should be selected.
Whether the cables are placed in:
1. Under the eaves. Cables can be used for standard local area network cables as long as they are not directly exposed to sunlight or extremely high temperatures. It is recommended to use conduits.
2. On the exterior wall. Avoid direct sunlight on the wall and avoid human damage.
3. In pipes (plastic or metal). If in pipes, pay attention to the damage of plastic pipes and the heat conduction of metal pipes.
4. Suspended application / overhead cables. Consider the sagging and pressure of the cables. What kind of bundling method is planned, and is the cable directly exposed to sunlight?
5. Directly laid in underground cable trenches. This environment is within the smallest control range. Cable trench installation should be regularly checked for dryness or moisture levels.
6. Underground pipes. To facilitate future upgrades, cable replacement, and isolation from surface pressure and surrounding environment, laying pipes in isolation is a better method. However, do not expect that the pipes will always remain dry, as this will affect the selection of cable types.
